If Facebook were to place an ad, it would read something like this. Wanted: Facebook users to buy and sell stuff and therefore spend more time on Facebook. That's real.
Facebook launched Marketplace on Monday, elbowing into Craigslist/eBay territory. (Sound familiar? In 2007, it introduced a feature also called Marketplace, but it never really took off.) The Marketplace icon will now appear at the bottom of the screen on the Facebook mobile app so you can peruse or post ads.
Marketplace is the latest push into commerce for the giant social network, which is looking to give users yet another reason to spend more time on it. Because you needed another reason, right?
